Testing Process

“Achieving response and remission are the ultimate goals of treating patients with depression. These results demonstrate promise for a pharmacogenomics approach to help improve short- and long-term response and remission rates in depressed adults compared to clinicians’ usual approaches to medication selection.”

ADHD Testing

At Desert Foothills Mental Health, we offer ADHD testing for adults and adolescents using QbTest, a clinically validated, objective behavioral test.

Think of QbTest as a brain-activity snapshot: a 15- to 20-minute, FDA-cleared* computer game that measures attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity while a motion sensor tracks even millimetre-small movements. Your performance is instantly compared with a norm group of people your same age and sex who don’t have ADHD, giving your clinician hard data— not guesswork— to guide diagnosis and treatment.

Cleared by the U.S. FDA for ages 6-60 and recommended by England’s NICE (guideline MIB318) for routine ADHD pathways.

What to Expect on Test Day

  1. Get comfy at our clinic desk (or in the comfort of your home), pop on the motion-tracking headband, and follow simple on-screen instructions.

  2. Focus & click when targets appear—it’s that easy. No math, no reading passages.

  3. Instant report—we walk through your personalized “traffic-light” graph before you leave, or via telehealth the same day.

Why Patients (and Providers) Love QbTest

  • Fewer appointments before answers; some clinics shaved 5–6 months off the pathway.

  • One short session replaces multiple rating-scale visits, saving you repeat trips.

  • Results are benchmarked against matched controls, so quieter presentations (often girls/women) don’t slip through the cracks.

  • Clinicians report greater certainty when choosing meds or confirming benefit—no more “Is it working?” guess-and-check.

  • Repeat QbTests track improvement over time—perfect for fine-tuning dose or documenting results for school/work.

  • Q: Can I pause if I’m stable?

Yes—after six months of stability you can drop to an as-needed à-la-carte rate.

Q: What if I need therapy too?

We’ll connect you with trusted therapists and share notes (with your consent).

Q: Does this program work with insurance?

Although we are in-network with most insurances, this program is a cash-pay offer. Some clients find that this option is less expensive and it also works with your FSA/HSA.

Pharmacogenomic (PGx) Testing—Personalized Meds, Fewer Guess-and-Check Weeks

Imagine knowing—before you swallow the first pill—whether your body can actually process it well. That’s the promise of pharmacogenomics: matching medications to your DNA so treatment starts closer to the bull’s-eye and side-effects stay off the invite list.

Why It Matters in Psychiatry

  • Two people can take the same antidepressant; one feels better, the other feels foggy and nauseous.

  • Genes that govern liver enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP2C19, etc.) decide how fast—or slow—your body breaks down many psych meds.

  • The FDA now lists more than 150 drugs with genomics flagged in their labels, including common antidepressants and ADHD treatments.
